Bryan A. D. Lightbody
June 12, 1989 - February 28, 2020
In February of 2020, our organization lost a very important member and dear friend. On February 28, 2020, Bryan A.D. Lightbody passed away unexpectedly at the age of 30 years old. Many of our veteran members, alumni, and active show attendees may be familiar with who this man is, however, for those who may not know of him and would have likely met him at our future events, allow us to tell you about him.
Bryan A.D. Lightbody graduated from the University of Connecticut with the Class of 2012 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Bryan loved cars, as all of us fellow car enthusiasts do, and meticulously took care of, and enjoyed modifying, his Subaru WRX STi. He often watched Formula One races around the globe and made several trips to Europe to watch races including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, England. He also went to races around the Northeast including Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut. Bryan loved going fast in his own cars, regularly revved his engine while going through tunnels, and he fondly recalled his trips to Germany where he had the opportunity to race on the Autobahn.
During his time at the University of Connecticut, he was a member of the UConn Car Club, and eventually became one of the founding members of UC3 - United Car Club of Connecticut, as well as a founding member of Decibel Motorsports, an automotive enthusiast group formed by him and his best friends. Bryan's involvement and energy that he brought to UC3 and Decibel allowed them to grow and work with other organizations for shows and future events, and is the very reason they stand where they are today! If it were not for Bryan, the opportunities the organizations have had may not have been possible.

Prior to his passing, Bryan's Subaru WRX STi build was incomplete. In the week leading up to his service, fellow friends of UC3: Mario Colao, Ben Chuong, and the team at Subimods worked tirelessly to make sure his car was complete. His car is now displayed at car events around Connecticut in honor of his legacy.
On Friday, June 12, 2020, Bryan would have turned 31 years old. To celebrate and honor his legacy, a memorial drive was held on Sunday, June 14, 2020 by friends, family and members from organizations of UC3, UConn Car Club, Decibel Motorsports, Subimods, and Ignition Speed Festival.
